Halloween Inspired Crochet Coasters

Hey y'all, it's fall! What better way to celebrate the season than to crochet something Halloween related. One item that we are always low on are coasters. Between the kids and cats, they just disappear in the black hole that also steals socks. When I think of Halloween, for some reason, candy corn comes to mind. Even though, I cannot stand it, the colors and shape of candy corn is appealing to the eye. That is what led me to begin thinking of different color patterns for a Halloween inspired crochet coaster!

Michaels Knitting & Crochet

This pattern is perfect for beginners and experience crocheters alike. Cotton yarn is the perfect choice as it will absorb the water better. Just make sure that if it is on a wood surface to be careful of watermarks.

What You'll Need

  • Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn in Orange, Yellow and White. I used Sugar 'n Cream yarn in Black, White, Hot Orange, Yellow and Warm Brown.
  • An H size crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

The color pattern below makes a traditional candy corn color pattern, however you can use any colors in any row you choose.

  2. Extended Half Double Crochet (EHDC) in 1st st and across, ch 2, turn
  3. With Yellow: HDC in 1st st and across, ch 2, turn
  4. EHDC in 1st st and across, ch 2, turn

For Fringe:

Cut 21-four inch long pieces in the color/colors you choose. Take 3 strands and make a tassel on the end of each short row on both sides. Cut uneven edges to make them a uniform length on both sides.

You can also style the fringe a few different ways, both shown above. The candy corn inspired coasters have fringe that was separated using a needle while the orange/black coaster is just yarn strand as they are. It adds a different texture and can be fun to play around with the different styles and lengths of fringe.

Extended Half Double Crochet:

Yarn over and pull up a loop in indicated stitch

Yarn over and pull through 1 loop

Yarn over and pull through remaining 3 loops on hook. The stitch is now completed.

What I love about this is that there are 2 different kinds of candy corn! The original which is orange, yellow, and white and Harvest Corn which is brown, orange, and white. I opted to make one of each to go with the traditional Halloween colored coasters. The best part of this pattern is you can make many different color combinations!

Let me know what color combination you prefer for Fall or Halloween!
